Which States Have the Most International Immigrants?

Updated: Aug 3, 2022

The map above shows what percent of each states population consists of people born outside of the US. California is the only state where more than a quarter of its population is foreign-born, but several other states have populations that are more than 15% foreign born.

On the other end, West Virginia and Montana have the lowest percentage of immigrants, with only 1.64% and 2.20% of their population being foreign born, respectively.

What is the definition of foreign born?

The US Census Bureau defines foreign-born as any person who is not a US citizen at birth. e.g. someone who was not born in the US.
